Donkey Kong Junior

1982 Nintendo

Year Acquired: 2007

This cabinet not only has Donkey Kong Junior in it, but it also has Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 2: Jumpman Returns, and Donkey Kong 3. I originally purchased this game to convert over to a Donkey Kong machine, but decided to install a switch and additional power supply to add Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong 3. All the games have high score kits installed in them and the Donkey Kong kit also has a Donkey Kong 2 upgrade.

In Donkey Kong Junior, the player controls a small monkey who must leap from platforms, climb vines, and avoid enemies to rescue Donkey Kong from Mario. The game has several distinct levels with similar goals. Fruit can be dropped on enemies (leg traps and birds) to kill them. Donkey Kong started the whole Mario dynasty. Jumpman -- known today as Mario -- must traverse levels (structures) to save his girlfriend, Pauline, from Donkey Kong before time runs out. The levels include Girders, Rivets, Elevators, and Conveyor Belts. Mario must avoid flames, barrels, and bouncing rivets to reach his goal. Donkey Kong 2 adds four new screens to the existing four screens to give you eight possible screens plus new intermissions.

I have a page here with some videos of Donkey Kong 2.
